Press releases

Client: Rosenergoatom Concern JSC

Work performance period: 03/26/2022 - 04/06/2022

Applied equipment: self-propelled modular transport with a capacity of 1200 tons, a portal system with a capacity of 500 tons, special jacking equipment.

In March-April 2022, the stator was replaced in the turbine hall of power unit No. 2 of the Kalinin NPP. The spent stator weighing 333 tons was loaded onto a self-propelled module, assembled in two parallel lines of 10 axles to provide a specified load on the floor of the engine room of no more than the permitted 10 tons per square m. Further, the self-propelled module took the stator from the machine room of the second power unit of the nuclear power plant to the outdoor area, where it was moved using the Enerpac SBL500 gantry system with a capacity of 500 tons from the module to the site for subsequent disposal.

The new stator is an oversized cargo weighing 333 tons, so a special railway transporter was used to deliver it from the site of the Russian manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg to the Kalinin NPP.

To release the stator, it was necessary to rest the central part of the conveyor on the floor. Considering that the floor carries a minimum load, and the columns carry a maximum of 40 tons, then during the support of the central part of the railway conveyor on any structure, there will necessarily be an uneven load on the support points, and, accordingly, there will be an excess pressure on the column of 40 tons with the danger of collapse.

So, «Beluga Projects Logistic» JSC developed a technical solution that eliminated excess loads and kept the new generator in the most immobile safe position.

This decision involved the installation of 10 special hydraulic jacks under the railway conveyor, connected to a synchronous control system. Jacks were installed strictly above the columns of the basement of the engine room.

The most complex operations for lifting and installing the stator in its regular place were carried out with the help of coupled overhead cranes in the turbine halls of the first and second power units.

The generator stator is the main element of the turbine unit and is designed to convert the mechanical energy received from the turbine into electrical energy.
